Can you imagine what Glo network is causing. Can you imagine what Glo network is causing……..I got a call from a colleague by 10.49 pm wanting to know how I am doing. To think that this colleague is in Oshogbo and has never called me before. We are not even anywhere near being close and bang! He calls to know how I am doing. By almost midnight, haba!
My phone rang and I picked this strange number and this person from the other end of the phone was all so nice and familiar and because of that, i didn’t want to be rude and ask who the person was. I thought I could figure it out from the voice as he kept talking. Once I couldn’t place the voice I had to politely ask who was speaking and he said ‘your colleague “.And I had to ask which of my colleagues and he said ID from Oshogbo. I could not place him so I asked him to introduce himself further, after a long explanation, I was able to place his face when he called his full name-Idowu.
So I quickly asked him if he needed any urgent information from the office that I could help him with because I was almost going to bed and he replied that he was just calling to greet me. He further added that he had been meaning to do this in a long while and bingo!my mind quickly went to Glo and their 40 naira call a day.So I briefly removed the phone from my ear and checked what nework he used to call me and behold it was Glo!
I blame Glo and I seriously do. Ask me why and I will tell you. If only Glo was not doing this promo where every call to the same Glo network attracts a paltry sum of #40 (forty naira) for the whole day. You make calls to various people for several hours and at the end of the day you are only charged 40 naira.
Trust my people to make good use of this golden opportunity! I became suspicious two days ago when my long lost cousin called and talked for hours on end and I even mentioned to her how it has been difficult for me to get calls through on my Glo line. And she mischievously didn’t mention that there was a promo going on .Initially, when I learnt of the promo, I was happy that at least people could get to call their loved ones and talk at length without having to worry about how much money they had spent.
And also trust my people to make a mess of a good situation! Most calls I get from colleagues are usually brief and straight to the point and before you say Jack Robinson, the line has been severed and I use to imagine the calls never happened. They simply don’t want to exhaust more than one minute of their airtime and when you ask why, they quickly tell you….na my last credit na. But for a male colleague to call me by almost midnight just to enquire how I am doing is taking it way too far. This could be as a result of ignorance of the dos and don’ts of phone usage.
A whole lot of us use phones without knowing the etiquette there by causing problems without knowing it in other people’s homes. What my colleague did could have been a harmless ‘oh, see free calls…who and who can I call…And God help me if the mister were to be around around….you can imagine all the explanations and long grammar i would have had to make to convince him that nothing- nothing.
Glo has brought a great relief to a whole lot of people in their new strategic bid to get more people on their network by encouraging Glo to Glo calls at such low rate .But at the same time ,it is almost becoming a nightmare as one cannot even get a call across to the same Glo network due to congestion .
